Funny things uttered this week:

About his peas planted at school:

Frick:  WOW!  Mom…look at my plants!  They are INCDREDIBLE!

About his Blues Clues ice cream treat:

Frack:  Wook Mom!  It has shmarshmellows!

To his brother when he was being pestered:

Frick:  FRACK!  You must stop now.  SERIOUSLY.

To me while I kept him in my classroom to ease into his morning:

Frack:  Hey, hey Mom.  I go see my guys now?

Reminder to those with children in Pull Ups:

The outer side of the Pull Up is not absorbent.  

REPEAT!

Not absorbent AT.ALL.

Please remind your children (and my child as well) to refrain from reversing the Pull Up when he or she should be sleeping.  If a reverse occurs, be prepared for some heavy duty cleaning of a dry-clean only comforter.  

The note sent home from Frack’s teacher was copied from a book with sayings that can be circled to describe the child’s behavior in a positive way.  

As I preschool teacher, I LOVE this.  

As his Mama, I know better.

…busy as a beaver!

…very energetic!

*sigh*

I need that energy to tackle the cleaning that needs to be done before my mother’s club meeting

As we were walking into Mass today

I happened to glance down at my feet.

Imagine my surprise when I saw

one black shoe

and one brown shoe.

I’m cool like that.

My parents have been married 40 years today…Valentine’s Day!

February 14, 1969

Mom had blood poisoning in her leg after she fell down some stairs taking her wedding gown to be altered just days before they said ‘I do’.  

Dad lost his false teeth (he’s had them since he was 13 from a football accident) in the days leading up to the wedding, only to be replaced in the nick of time.

But they managed to get hitched anyway. 

And it has lasted 40 years.

Happy Anniversary Nini and Pops!

My thoughts:

*Is it just me or is Valentine’s Day one of the most overrated holidays around?  Is it an excuse to eat chocolate?  I don’t need an excuse.

*Why do we pass out little Valentine cards when we only throw them away? Isn’t that a waste of money?

*Why is it every time I buy Frick a pair of pants, he puts a whole in them?  Is it cool to wear patches?  Why do I care if my 4 year old looks cool?

Frack had his three year old checkup yesterday.  He is in the 90% in weight and 25% in height.  He has been in those percentiles since birth at every.single.appointment.  At least he is consistent.

Frick enjoys cracking himself up.

Case in point:

Please ignore the backdrop.  

That would be my laundry room.

I had to sit on the washer to prevent it from dancing across the floor.

Frick and Frack thought it was funny.

Those are my boys.

Chips off the old block.

My mother and father swear Frack is exactly how I was in my younger years.

My behavior stunk.  I lived 85% of my life in my room from ages 3-5.

And, lately, so does Frack.

I haven’t posted this information yet–although it has been consuming my every thought and action.

I am working on him.  Molding him to be a better Frack.

And Frick can be quite the character as he is testing our boundaries (see THIS POST) as well.

Nini reminded me of a story from my childhood along these lines.

I was about 4 and having a tough time at the dinner table.

In other words, I was mouthing off and acting up.

My dad had enough of my sassy attitude.

He slammed his fist down on the table making the plates and silverware dance around.

He stated clearly through his clenched teeth…

“Dammit, Mandy!! I married one.  I am NOT gonna raise one!!!”

I started crying.

My brother looked like a deer stuck in headlights.

And my mom rolled on the floor laughing until she was crying.

*By the way, this is my 300th post. Yeehaw!*

Mass.

One goes to feed the soul, reflect on life and the many blessings given.  We thank God for all that He has given, especially the two little boys entrusted to us.

Last week, Frack had a difficult time in the nursery.  (I say difficult to be polite.  He was terrible.)

Given the fact we were MORTIFIED that our child acted the way he did at church of all places, we decided to try something new.

With a swift prayer and a deep breath,

Frack attended Mass with us.

Without food and drink (it’s church, not a restaurant).

Without toys (this isn’t the nursery).

Without crayons (it’s not art class either).

He was great.

He wanted to go out of the church.

And then he wanted to go back in to see Daddy and Frick.

He shouted while waving madly, “Hey Daddy!!!” when I had him in my arms on my way to receive the Eucharist.

When we approached the Eucharistic Minister, she blessed him.  He was surprised by this gesture.  He cocked his head to the side and said, “Yeah!“ 

Finally, at the end of Mass, he begged me to sing, “Alligators All Around” by Carole King instead of “The Prayer of St. Francis”.

Seriously, though.

We were proud of our guys today during Mass.

This was quite a feat and one that will continue each Sunday.

I just hope the wiggles will wiggle out before they are 15 and 16.
